We’re already looking fwd to another great afternoon of blues at the Beehive…We have 2 great Featured Acts, SCOTT WAINWRIGHT and GARY GRAINGER; Host BEN BLUE WATERS will play a few song to kick thing s off; and MARTIN PLOCK enjoyed himself so much last time that he’s coming back again to do a short ‘Special Guest’ slot. See you there!
Scott Wainwright is a Yorkshire based singer-songwriter and instrumentalist. His music draws from various musical genres including Blues, Gospel, Folk and Hip Hop as well as various ‘World’ musics, such as African, Hawaiian and Indian.
Working with acoustic finger style and bottleneck guitar, harmonica and occasional banjo, Scott draws on his wide love for these types of music and celebrates the joy of pure creativity.
All of Scott’s work evokes a wide range of emotions and feelings from his listeners, as he tackles subjects such as love, life, death, loss, hope and the possibility of being ‘wrong’ about everything.
Throughout the year, Scott plays extensive shows all over the UK, both as a solo performer and as a part of various duos and bands. Every performance is delivered with creativity, passion and a large dose of homespun humour.
Many people know Gary Grainger as the 2012 British Blues Award winning host of The Blues Show on BishopFM
Even more people confuse him with the Gary Grainger who played guitar with Rod Stewart (no, he isn’t that Gary Grainger!).
Gary’s musical apprenticeship began in the working men’s clubs of the North East of England in the early seventies where, among other stories too wild to tell here, he supported Bill Haley & The Comets.
At the same time a revolution was happening in his head – he’d listened to radio shows by Mike Raven, Alexis Korner & John Peel – and he heard THE BLUES.
Since that time the blues has been a strong influence on everything Gary has played – one Country & Western Band leader told Gary: “Stop Playing The Blues – or go join a Blues Band” – advice which Gary promptly followed.
But it has always been acoustic music in general, and the Blues in particular, that have held their place in Gary’s heart and he currently presents an eclectic mix of Blues and Americana at pubs and festivals around the North East of England.
Gary’s current acoustic set includes a mixture of traditional & modern blues tunes, featuring Gary’s lived-in voice & dextrous fingerpicking & slide guitar. His set also includes songs not so much from left field, rather from the West Coast – of the USA. Gary features songs by bands such as Little Feat, Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers – & ZZ Top!
Ben Blue Waters will host and play a short opening set of footstomping slide guitar blues
